Straight answers

Before you fill anything out.

What is mortgage protection insurance?

It is life insurance sized to your mortgage. If you pass away during the term, the policy pays your family a lump sum. They can pay off the house, keep making the payments, or use it for something else. The money goes to the people you name, not to your lender.

Is this the same as the PMI on my loan?

No. PMI protects your lender if you stop paying. It pays your family nothing. Mortgage protection is a policy you own, and it pays the people you choose.

Why am I getting mail about this from my lender?

Mortgages are public record, so new homeowners get a lot of mortgage protection offers. Those letters are from insurance agencies, not from your bank or the government. Brad is an independent agent, and you are never required to buy anything.

Do I need a medical exam?

Often no. Many carriers approve you from a phone interview and a few health questions, sometimes the same day. If an exam would get you a better rate, Brad will tell you and let you choose.

What happens if I get sick but do not pass away?

Many policies include living benefits. After a qualifying critical, chronic or terminal illness you can access part of your death benefit early to cover the mortgage and bills while you recover. Riders and rules differ by carrier.
